Santos was crowned the inaugural KFC National U20 football champions defeating Dynamic 3-1 in the final yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
The match did not start brightly for Santos which fell behind in the 12th minute as Julius Hamilton scored for the East Coast Demerara outfit. However, the lead lasted for only six minutes as Orin Moore equalised for the Georgetown unit.
Santos would then take the lead as Ronaldo Rodrigues etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 45th minute. The result was then sealed one minute upon the resumption of play as Stephon Reynolds found the back of the net.
Santos walked away with $500,000 and the championship trophy while the loser pocketed $300,000 and the respective accolade.
Meanwhile in the third place playoff, Fruta Conquerors overcame Botofago 6-3. Rayvon Bailer, Ryan Hackett, Nicholas MacArthur, Leon Richardson and Wayne Baker scored in the 38th, 57th, 84th, 86th and 88th minute respectively.
For the loser, Tyrell Lewis and Shayne Haynes scored in the 30th and 58th minute respectively, while an own goal added to the scoreline in the 45th+2 minute.
With the result, Fruta Conquerors walked away with $200,000.
