The brother of Cynthia Cozier, who was chopped last week and later succumbed to her injuries, was yesterday charged with murder.
Randy Cozier, 24, a grass cutter, was read the murder charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that the accused, on July 4, at Waramuri Village, Moruca, North West District, murdered Cynthia Cozier.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on July 3, the defendant went to Cynthia’s home, where she was with other siblings. Sometime during the visit, Mansfield added, Cynthia rebuked the defendant because he was pelting the children. This response angered Randy, causing him to become annoyed, arm himself with two cutlasses and chop the now deceased woman to her neck and torso.
She was later taken to the Moruca Hospital, where she succumbed.
The prosecutor noted that the post-mortem report relating to the matter is outstanding.
Chief Magistrate McLennan later adjourned the matter until August 5.
Cynthia Cozier, 26, of Moruca, North West District, died at approximately 6.30 last Thursday morning at the Suddie Public Hospital.
Cozier— a mother of three— her baby, and her sister, were all injured in the attack last Wednesday afternoon.
