(Barbados Nation) Barbadians are facing the reality they will no longer be able to claim child allowance when filing their personal income tax returns.
In recent days, payroll departments have been notifying their employees of the change introduced in the March 20 Budget and ushered in this month as part of adjustments to personal income tax rates.
Up to when they filed this year, individuals were permitted to claim allowance of $1 000 each for a maximum two of their offspring, those of their spouse or legally adopted children.
However, yesterday the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) confirmed the policy shift effective for 2020 filing as it responded to complaints from some individuals that they were caught unawares by the move.
