Former three-time national men’s singles champion Colin France feels that nine-yea-old emerging table tennis maestro Jasmine Billingy has the potential to be a world-beater.
“She is a world-beater,” France said of Billingy who along with Malachi Moore according to reports in another section of the media, will participate at an upcoming International Table Tennis Federation World Hopes training camp in the Dominican Republic.
He added: “I think she can go all the way. She can be one of the best players this country has ever produced. The things she does on the table for her age, her work ethic and her willingness to learn are very encouraging,” France added.
He also disclosed that the nine-year-old, who is sponsored by Car Care, is in good stead to possibly medal at the upcoming Caribbean Table Tennis Federation Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships which follows the World Hopes Training Camp from August 19-27, also being hosted in the Dominican Republic.
The World Hopes training camp will be held in the Dominican Republic from August 11-19 and caters for under – 11 players like the Guyanese selectees who have been in menacing form over the past few years, winning several local titles.
Most recently, Moore, of the Malteenoes Sports Club copped the boys under- 11 title at the recent 2019 Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) National Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships.
Billingy, who is a product of the Titans Table Tennis Club and has been nurtured under the watchful eyes of France, clinched the girls under 11 and 13 titles. She returned a day later to serve her way to championship honours in the under 15 and 18 categories of the GTTA Challenge.
