One of Guyana’s leading table tennis clubs the Titans Table Tennis Club, is set to roll out its 2019 junior summer camp from Monday until July 26.
The two-week learning experience will be held at the Westfield Prep School, Parade Street, Kingston from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs Mondays to Fridays and 10:00hrs to noon on Saturdays. The summer exchange caters for the beginners, intermediates and advanced level junior players 6-18 years old. President of the Club Dwain Dick disclosed that his team will be ‘following the ITTF schools programme model’ while applicants will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the country’s top juniors.
“We will be using some national junior players as sparring partners for the beginners who will encourage and motivate them (applicants) through their experiences,” Dick revealed. He added that a lot of emphasis will be placed on the grassroots development of players to unearth new talent.
The sessions will include lectures on the introduction to the sport, brief history and background on the game, fun games and exercises, and exposing participants to the technical intricate areas of table tennis.
The camp is supported and endorsed by Viva Water, through the efforts of Raymond Govinda, Viva Brand Manager.
TTTC has been at the forefront of Guyana’s table tennis in recent times, producing the likes of Jonathan Van Lange, Jasmine Billingy, Kristian Sahadeo, Colin Wong, Thuraia Thomas and Isaiah Layne. Interested persons are urged to contact Dick on telephone number 642-3288 for registration forms.
