Defending champion Gold is Money, along with traditional giants Sparta Boss, Back Circle and North East La Penitence secured wins when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Championship commenced on Friday.
Another large crowd descended on the National Cultural Centre tarmac to witness Gold is Money downing Globe Yard 2-0 in the feature clash of the night.
Recent acquisition Jermin Junior and Michael Pedro scored following a scoreless first half in the 13th and 17th minute each.
Similarly, Sparta Boss overcame Judgment Yard 3-0. Ryan Hackett broke the deadlock in the 15th minute before rallying a ‘Guinness Goal’ (GG) (a goal scored in the final three minutes counts as two) in the 19th minute.
On the other hand, Back Circle outlasted Norton Street 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 3-3. Dellon Kelly, Selwyn Williams and Stephon McLean scored in the fifth, eighth and 13th minute respectively.
For the loser, Carl Griffith tallied a seventh minute effort alongside a (GG) in the 19th minute. Meanwhile North East La Penitence dismissed Stabroek Ballers 4-2. Keifer Brandt tallied a double in the fifth and seventh minute.
He was assisted by goals from siblings Kelvin and Alwyn Moore in the ninth and 13th minute apiece. For the loser, Shamar Welch bagged a (GG) in the 18th minute.
Meanwhile, Alexander Village, Albouystown-A, LA Ballers and John Street also secured wins to seal their place in the group round. The event resumes on Friday with the group stage matches.
