A motorcyclist of Sophia is now hospitalised following a collision with a minibus on the ‘B’ Field access road on Saturday morning.
The injured man has been identified as Travis Browne, 19, of Lot 710 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, who is currently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police investigations have revealed that the minibus, BXX 6056, driven by a resident of ‘A’ Field, Sophia, collided with Browne.
The driver told police he was travelling north along the western side of the ‘B’ Field Access Road at a speed of 40 kmph.
The driver alleged that the motorcyclist was sitting on the bike facing south on the western parapet. He said as he approached the area where the cyclist was, he suddenly rode off across the road at a fast rate.
The police said the driver, after realising that the motorcyclist had ridden off, applied brakes and swerved east of the road to avoid a collision.
However, the cyclist collided with the front of the vehicle, lost control, and struck a utility pole on the eastern parapet, sustaining injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the city hospital.
A passenger of the minibus, Gavin Prince, who sustained minor injuries to the left side of his face, also received medical attention and was sent away.
A breathalyser test was administered to the driver and it returned negative results. He has since been detained and is assisting with the investigation.
