Dear Editor,
SN’s Future Notes of July 10, 2019 provides pause for much contemplation. Regardless of which side you were, or are now on, the Notes constitute a timely and critical reminder of the negative experiences which have persistently enveloped us despite who has been the winner in the several General Elections.
It speaks to the related desperation to take charge regardless of the level of competency to manage and provide comfort for those who voted.
It speaks to the determination to continue to sustain a deeply fractured society by respectively relying on ethnicity based support.
It points to the vacuum in which we now exist, created by the compulsive drive to divide.
It does not speak of healing the wounds inflicted on the respective groups of supporters – cumulating only in the desire to recriminate.
It does not speak to the retrieval of the chasmatic divide required to save our country from the futilities wreaked in the past.
What it does is leave us to wonder whether elections which are bound to further institutionalise the racial tensions are really necessary; whether the young generations of this population have any benefit to gain from this counterproductive exercise in ‘party’ governance.
It also leaves us to wonder why the vaunted leaders do not understand how constipated are their respective positions, as they display no element of trust – not only in one another, but in the communities each other represents.
What we so much want to see is the recognition of the need to listen, respond positively, create new ground for agreement, compatibility for cohesion, indeed for putting the nation first.
Let us rise beyond our limitations and set example to the generations of the future, of tolerance, teamsmanship and unity – our Vision.
