Following two nights of thrilling elimination matches, the group stage in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Championship commences on Friday at the National Cultural Center Tarmac.
The 16 winning teams, including defending champions Gold is Money, have been divided into groups of four as they battle for quarterfinal places.
The top two finishers from each group will advance.
“The impending group stage might be the most competitive in the history of the event as several teams have already displayed their championship quality and aspirations during the elimination round,” a release from tournament coordinator Three Peat Promotions, stated.
“We envisage a highly-competitive round where any of the teams can progress to the quarterfinal stage due to their quality. The fans will certainly be treated to pulsating action,” the release added.
The other group stage nights are July 20th and 26th. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on July 27th, with the grand final slated for August 3rd.
Winner of the event will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finisher copping $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
They will also automatically seal a place in the National Championship in August.
Currently Beacons [Bartica Champion], Melanie-B [East Coast Demerara winner], Brothers United [West Demerara/East Bank Demerara winner], Trafalgar [Berbice champion] and High Rollers [Linden champion] have sealed automatic berths to the National Championship.
