The Lady Jaguars maintained their grip atop group-A in the CONCACAF Women’s U20 Championship, defeating Antigua and Barbuda 2-0 yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
It was the second consecutive win for Guyana following their victory over Bermuda via an identical score on Saturday.
Brianne Desa and Liana Khedoo ensured that the small but supportive crowd left the venue in a joyous mood as they found the back of the net in the 24th and 60th minute respectively.
The opening conversion came via the penalty mark after local girl Tiandi Smith was brought down in the area.
Tasked with the responsibility, Desa made no mistake from the mark as she fired her effort past the opposing custodian.
The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval, with Guyana guilty of wasting opportunities to increase their advantage.
Khedoo would then put the score beyond the reach of the visitors following the resumption, thumping her effort into the back of the net, after a poorly cleared corner-kick fell into her path.
Guyana now has six points and occupies the top spot owing to their superior goal difference.
Guyana will now match skills with St. Lucia on Friday at 20:30hrs. In their final match, Guyana will tackle Suriname on Sunday at 16:00hrs.
St. Lucia also secured their second consecutive victory, squeaking past Bermuda 2-1.
It was the second consecutive defeat for Bermuda who now dwell in the cellar position.
Krysan St. Louis bagged a first half double in the 10th and 13th minute. For the losers, Ryley Simmons netted a consolation goal in the 87th minute.
