For the next four days, over two dozen cricketers, coaches, administrators and enthusiasts will look to qualify themselves with the Cricket West Indies Level One certificate.
The programme will be conducted daily at the National Stadium, Providence with Territorial Developmental Officer, Colin Stuart, one of the primary tutors of the course and Kumar Rampat of Trinidad and Tobago in charge.
Among those expected to participate are current players, Leon Johnson, Akshaya Persaud, Anthony Adams, Veerasammy Permaul, Steven Jacobs, Vishaul Singh, Tremayne Smartt, Guyana Cricket Board Administrative Assistant, Kavita Yadram, Coaches Ryan Hercules, Andre Percival, Rohan Sarjoo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jermaine Neblette, Jitlall Jowhiralall, Ameer Rahaman, Anthony D’Andrade, Clive Grimmond and Dhanpaul.
According to Stuart, a Level Three coach, there was consideration for the course to be divided into two groups but the decision was made to conduct it in “one big class.”
The former West Indies fast bowler said
that the programme will enhance the knowledge of the sport to the individual while improving their quality in transferring this knowledge to the players at the club level.
Last month, 30 persons certified themselves at the Foundation level which is geared at helping potential coaches at clubs who may be players acting as coaches, teachers and individuals getting information about coaching methods as well as technical points to make learning easier while promoting a method that is common across territories in the West Indies.
