Customs officers along with police ranks attached to ‘B’ Division and ‘C’ Division seized several vehicles, boxes of chicken, liquor and other items at a location in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
According to information gathered, two boats, three engines, two buses, two cars, 400 boxes of chicken and 60 boxes of assorted liquor and beer were seized.
Stabroek News was told that the suspected smugglers escaped when the law enforcers arrived around 10 pm on Thursday evening. At the time of the bust, the items were being offloaded into vehicles.
According to a source, the items were being smuggled for a known smuggler of Annandale, East Coast Demerara.
The seized items have since been transported to a customs warehouse at Eccles.
