President David Granger, this morning, departed Guyana for Cuba for a scheduled evaluation, following treatment for cancer earlier this year. He is accompanied by First Lady, Sandra Granger, a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency said today.
The Head of State has travelled to Cuba for a scheduled evaluation by doctors of the Centro de Investigaciones Medico Quirurgicas (CIMEQ). He was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin Lymphoma last year after a series of tests by specialist doctors at the CIMEQ.
President Granger is scheduled to return to Guyana next week, the statement said.
The President is yet to make a decision on names which are to be added to a list of nominees for the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission. He had been given four names last week by the Opposition Leader, two of which were to be added to four that had already been cleared. A list of six would then be submitted by the Opposition Leader to Granger. The president’s departure means that this crucial process will likely be delayed for at least another week.
