Defending champion Gold is Money and former champions Sparta Boss, Leopold Street and Tiger Bay secured contrasting results when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Street’ Georgetown zone group round commenced Friday.
A large crowd gathered at the National Cultural Centre tarmac and witnessed Gold is Money edging newcomers John Street 1-0 through an Hubert Pedro 14th minute goal. In another fixture Sparta Boss whipped Alexander Village 6-1. Dennis Edwards recorded two Guinness Goals [GG] [A goal scored in the final three minutes counts as two] in the 18th and 29th minute while Ryan Hackett and Gregory Richardson netted in the fourth and 12th minute respectively.
For Alexander Village, Shem Porter netted a consolation goal in the 15th minute. Similarly, Leopold Street downed Albouystown-A 3-1. Omallo Williams banged in a double in the ninth and 10th minute, with Darren Benjamin scoring in the 14th minute.
For Albouystown-A, Akosi Jarvis scored in the 11th minute. Meanwhile, Tiger Bay needled Future Stars 1-0. Solomon Austin made his presence felt in the 16th minute.
In other results, LA Ballers defeated Broad Street 7-6 on sudden death penalty kicks, after normal time ended scoreless, while Sophia defeated Back Circle 1-0.
The round robin stage will conclude on July 26th. The top two finishers from each section will advance to the quarterfinal and subsequent semi-final round.
Winner of the event will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finisher copping $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
