Dear Editor,
In 2016, I applied for a firearm licence, and I am still waiting to get one. Why it takes so long to get a firearm licence in Guyana?
In the great state of Florida, I am able to get a firearm licence in seven days for only $20, 000 Guyana dollars.
And as a former member of the armed forces, I don’t have to go through any firearm licence training. The training is waived.
Editor, shouldn’t the government of Guyana automatically issue firearm licences to remigrants who have already passed a police and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) firearm background check overseas and are licensed firearm holders, just like they do with the overseas driver’s licence?
Shouldn’t those with military and law enforcement backgrounds be fast-tracked to get a firearm licence?
Editor, can you please tell me why it is taking three years to get a firearm licence in Guyana?
Yours faithfully,
Anthony Pantlitz
