Royston Rowe, who was recently released from prison after serving two years for armed robbery, is now back behind bars after being charged with the unlawful possession of a gun.
Rowe, 31, of Newtown, Kitty, initially pleaded guilty to the charge against him, which was read by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in a city court yesterday.
The charge states that on July 16th, at Campbell Avenue, Georgetown, he had in his possession a .38 revolver without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss told the court that on the day in question, police ranks received a phone call from Rowe’s girlfriend. Upon arriving at the Campbell Avenue address, they made contact with the woman, who told them that Rowe threatened to kill her with a gun, which she handed over to them.
Rowe was arrested while he was on his way back to the address. At the time, he had two Guinness bottles in hand. According to Inniss’ case, Rowe admitted to the police that the gun was his and the charge was subsequently instituted against him.
However, when he was asked by the magistrate whether what the prosecutor said was true, Rowe stated, “The police ain’t find me with no gun. Right now, my head hurting and me ain’t able waste the court time, so I plead guilty. They hold me with two Guinness and two hundred dollar cigarette.” The prosecutor also informed the court that Rowe was recently released from prison and he confirmed this information and told the court that he was released in May of this year after spending two years in jail for an armed robbery.
After listening to his explanation, the magistrate entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. The father of one was then remanded to prison on the grounds of the serious nature of the charge against him and the penalty it attracts. His next hearing is scheduled for July 29th.
