A South Sophia man is now dead after he was shot to the neck during a confrontation at a pool party in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
The dead man has been identified as Terry Ault, 28, who was a gold miner of Lot 63, Block A, South Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
Ault, who was a father of one, was shot at approximately 2 am on Sunday at the neighbourhood pool party. He was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Five persons, who were present at the time of the fatal shooting, were detained by the police and they are said to be assisting with the investigation.
Ault’s sister, Debbie (only name given), last night told Stabroek News that details were scant about the events that led to the shooting and her family was still trying to find out what occurred.
She said based on the information given so far, her brother was reportedly attacked by a man after he was seen talking to his assailant’s girlfriend. She added that the man approached her brother from behind and there was a confrontation, during which Ault was shot.
The sister said that her brother was found lying on the roadway and was picked up and rushed to the GPH for medical attention.
His body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
