Coomacka upset Topp XX while Winners Connection mauled Hi-Stars, when the Divine Entertainment’s Summer Super Cup football championship continued on Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground, Linden.
Coomacka secured the unlikely result against the home side via a 2-1 scoreline. Lionel Peters and Cassie Campbell scored in the first and 85th minute respectively. For the loser, Shawn Daniels found the back of the net in the sixth minute.
On the other hand, Winners Connection dismantled Hi-Stars 7-0. Errol Davis and Shaquille Frank led the rout with respective braces.
Davis found the back of the net twice in the 14th and 22nd minute, while Frank etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 40th and 62nd minute. Adding goals in the 42nd, 63rd and 86th minute correspondingly were Akeem Caesar, Ravon Haynes and Malachi Todd.
The event resumes tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader. The competition, which is slated to conclude on August 3rd, is being contested in an initial group stage format.
Group A comprises Eagles, Topp XX and Coomacka while Group B consists of Net-rockers, Amelia’s Ward and Blueberry Hill. Group C, meanwhile, contains Haynes Hitters, Capital FC and Hi-Stars and Group D features Milerock, Botofago and Silver Shattas. The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout round.
