A man was fined $20,000 yesterday after a Georgetown court heard that he threatened to shred his mother to pieces and put her in a freezer.
Robin Mohan appeared in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty where it was stated that on July 20th at Howes Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, he used threatening language towards his mother.
Mohan pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge. He told the court that his mother is always “on my back” and on the day in question he was upset and said “the eagle will strip chicken” which she took out of context when she made the report. He also apologized stating that he loves his mother more than God.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court that Mohan suffers from a drug addiction problem and in 2016 his mother was forced to take out a restraining order against him due to his abusive behaviour. The court further heard that Mohan did not abide by the order. The prosecutor said that the restraining order has now expired and on the day in question, the man showed up at his mother’s home and began to verbally abuse her for unknown reasons. His mother asked him to leave but the prosecutor said that he refused and then threatened to strip her to pieces and put her in a freezer.
The woman then made a report and the son was arrested. The prosecutor also informed the court that when Mohan was found, he had a steel pipe in his pants. The prosecutor then told the court that he believes Mohan should be given a strong message.
Magistrate McGusty then fined Mohan, $20,000 or an alternative of two months’ imprisonment.
