The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the charge against two men, including the operator of Rockies Hotel in Georgetown, accused of plotting to kill a Lethem businessman, yesterday commenced with the complainant’s testimony.
It is alleged that Mark Grimmond and Chatterpaul Singh, called Kevin Singh, between April 1st, 2018 and June 7th, 2019, in Georgetown, conspired with each other and persons unknown to murder Dwayne Grant.
At the commencement of the PI yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, Grant took to the stand to present his evidence.
He was followed by Sergeant 19822 Komal Pitama, who is stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department and attached to the Major Crimes Unit.
The testimony of both men was later suspended.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers later indicated to the court that there are a total of 24 witnesses in the matter, the majority being police officers.
He further stated that five other officers were warned to be at court but were also slated to be in other areas.
The Magistrate urged the prosecutor to have multiple witnesses present on the next occasion.
She then went on to set a string of dates when the matter is expected to be held.
The matter is expected to be called on August 7.
