Following their provision of cricket gear to two players in the Guyana Under-19 squad, Regal Stationery has now ventured to provide financial support to the five players in the squad who are members of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC).
At a simple presentation ceremony on Tuesday at the company’s Seaforth Street, Campbellville office, a cheque valued US$200 was handed over to Club Captain Dennis Squires. The money will be equally distributed amongst the five players.
“This is a good piece of incentives for the players to buy whatever little goodies they need…while on tour,” Squires said.
Mahendra Hardyal, Managing Director of Regal Stationery, congratulated the youngsters for their accomplishment and reminded them that the journey has now begun. He encouraged them to do their best and make Guyana proud in the short tournament which can see players earning a spot in the West Indies Under-19 team.
Squires, a veteran spinner, thanked the company for their timely donation and recognition of the players as he listed Qumar Torrington, Sachin Singh, Daniel Mootoo, Alphius Bookie and Ashmead Nedd as those players coming out of the DCC.
While Nedd has been a part of the West Indies Under-19 team in the past and both Singh and Torrington are no strangers to the tournament, Mootoo, 15, and Bookie, 18, will be making their first appearance at this level.
Squires acknowledged that along with Regal Stationery, the youngsters also received some additional gear from Royal Real Estate, Lawrence Smith, Harper Sports as well as additional financial assistance from Patrick Harding and Carol Lonke.
Guyana are the defending champions, winning the last five seasons consecutively and the team will venture to St Vincent and the Grenadines to represent the nation in five 50-over matches from July 28 to August 6.
