As investigations into the murder of Leon Duncan continue, police are on the hunt for several persons of interest according to Commander of ‘A’ Division, Marlon Chapman.
He told Stabroek News that investigators are currently working on some information that will hopefully lead to the arrest of persons.
Former murder accused Leon Duncan, also known as ‘Whistle’, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Sunday last in Festival City.
The attack left three persons, including Leon Duncan’s brother, Shaquille Duncan, called ‘Lil Shaq’, 25, of 2692 Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt, nursing gunshot injuries. Police said Shaquille sustained injuries to his right arm and left thigh. The two other injured persons are: Lawrence Simon, 34, called ‘Plait Hair’, a construction worker of 2104 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, who was shot in the left knee; and Orandy Gordon, 28, of 1195 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, who was shot in the left arm and right knee.
Chapman said of the three injured persons, two were discharged and one remains in hospital. He could not say at the time which one of the three persons remains hospitalised.
In addition, Chapman disclosed that the owner of the motor car used in the commission of the crime has come forward and told investigators that the car was stolen.
Sources told Stabroek News that the car was stolen on the July 6, while it was parked in front of the driver’s home. The car was operated as taxi. A report of it being stolen was made to the Beterverwagting Police Station.
Police on Monday, said a car fitting the description of the one used in the shooting, was found and a search uncovered 31 live rounds, a single spent shell and a gun magazine.
Police said their investigations have revealed that the men were gambling at a culvert on Williamstaad Street when a car approached. The car, police said, was proceeding at a normal speed. However, as it was about to pass the men, the occupant(s) of the car began shooting at the men indiscriminately. The car then sped away.
Stabroek News was told that the shooter(s) used a black Toyota 212. Leon Duncan fell to the ground while the other men scattered. A gunman reportedly exited the vehicle and continued firing shots at Leon Duncan. Residents reported that they were afraid of rendering assistance to the men since the car was still circling the area a few minutes after the attack.
The injured men were picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Leon Duncan succumbed while receiving medical attention
