Works are expected to be undertaken to rectify a developing depression on the eastern side of the Kitty roundabout, according to Ministry of Public Infrastructure engineer Sherod Parkinson.
The ministry indicated last week that it was monitoring the development.
When Parkinson was contacted, he related that there appears to be a slight depression, which he said was due to the increase in the load of vehicular traffic, which would have caused some settlement underground.
He confirmed that some works will be done by the ministry to rectify the situation but was unable to say when they would start.
Stabroek News also contacted the contractor – S Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services – and was told by an engineer that they were not aware of the situation and would have to check to see if there is a fault in the area and whether or not it is still the company’s responsibility to rectify the issue.
A small sinkhole had initially developed in the area late in December 2016 and it was subsequently enlarged in order to apply a temporary fix. After the sinkhole was fixed, the roundabout was subsequently constructed at a cost of $78.9 million.
The area where the depression has started developing would usually facilitate parking for persons visiting the sea wall.
