Tournament heavyweights Net-Rockers and Eagles sealed their knockout berths in the inaugural Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup Football tournament, defeating Blueberry Hill and Coomacka respectively on Wednesday.
Hosted at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden, Net-Rockers brushed aside Blueberry Hill by a 3-0 scoreline. The feared trident of Shane Luckie, Denzil Pryce and Deshawn Joseph were on target in the win.
Luckie fashioned the opener compliments of a 29th minute conversion. This proved to be the only conversion of the half as the Blueberry Hill backline thwarted further attempts by the opposing frontline.
However, two goals in the space of seven minutes in the dying stages of the clash effectively sealed the vital three points.
Price etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 81st minute, before Joseph put the game to bed with an 87th minute strike.
Meanwhile, Eagles overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Coomacka 2-1. Ronny Sanchez handed Coomacka the unexpected advantage as he broke the deadlock in the third minute.
However, parity would be restored to proceedings in the 30th minute as veteran forward Sheavy Seaforth found the back of the net 27 minutes later.
The scoreline would remain unaltered heading into the halftime interval. Following the resumption, Colwyn Drakes would make his presence felt, grabbing the eventual go-ahead winner in the 58th minute.
The event resumes tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader. In the opening match at 19:00hrs, Capital FC battles Hi-Stars while the feature clash at 21:00hrs will pit Botofago against Silver Shattas from 21:00hrs.
