The Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Championship quarter and semi-finals have been rescheduled for next Friday at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac after torrential rains rendered the venue unfit for players and spectators on Friday night.
According to an official correspondence from tournament coordinator Three Peat Promotions, “The torrential downpour rendered the venue unplayable which was certainly disappointing as systems were in place for a wonderful night of action.”
The release further said, “Priority was and must be given to the safety and overall health of the players. Although injuries are a by-product of the sport, we have to use every opportunity to ensure and remove any possibility of injury for the players. That is the most important factor of the event, because without the players [there] would be no event. Despite the unfortunate incident, we envision a thrilling night of action on Friday, as the teams vie for a coveted final’s berth.”
