The national men’s 7s rugby team finished their Pan American Games campaign yesterday in Lima, Peru with a 24-nil loss to Uruguay, a reminder of how their forgettable tournament unfolded.
Earlier in the day, the local ruggers had their best all-round match but failed to clinch a victory versus Jamaica, dropping a 33-19 result.
The loss meant the ‘Green Machine’ went winless in their five matches, going scoreless in three.
In their first three games, the national team was blanked 62-nil by the USA, lost 59-nil to Brazil and 87-7 to Chile.
Against Jamaica, they had some positives. After a 21-nil deficit at halftime, 19 points were scored in the second half as they held the Jamaican Crocs to 12.
Patrick King led the locals with two tries which was supported with a try by Dwayne Schroeder. Godfrey Broomes chipped in with two conversions.
For Jamaica, Tajay Facey (two), Conan Osbourne, Albert Caven and Elliott Caton-Brown were the players who recorded tries on the match sheet.
James Adamson buried the four conversions.
The national outfit will once again be returning to the drawing board to smooth out its wrinkles especially on the defensive end. They gave up a total of 265 points while scoring just 26 in their five matches.
