The top ten achievers at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) from Region Ten were last week honoured at a ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
The event took place at the Linden Concert Hall and School (LICHAS) in McKenzie, Linden and among the attendees was Minister of Education, Dr Nicolette Henry; Regional Education Officer (REdO) for Region Ten, Rabindra Singh and representatives from ANSA McAL Trading.
The students were also the recipients of awards, compliments of ANSA McAL Trading.
The Education Minister told the gathering that the children demonstrated the courage and determination which has caused them to be a part of the appreciation ceremony and the recipients of ANSA McAL’s awards. She expressed the desire to be placed on record as congratulating all the children that wrote NGSA 2019 and urged parents to play a greater role in the education of their children. The Minister emphasised that education delivery is a collaborative effort and both the school and the parents/guardians have a vital role to play if the children are to perform at their optimum.
Dr Henry took the opportunity to assure those present that efforts are ongoing to ensure that all schools are positioned to deliver and to ensure that good results are across the board and not only from the known schools. She acknowledged that the current state of the education sector represents “some amount of progress” and declared that her Ministry will continue to work to improve the system for the benefit of Guyana’s development.
REdO Singh told the awardees that it matters not which school they will attend as he believes that ultimately it will be the children’s drive and determination that will derive success. He echoed the Education Minister in calling on parents to play a greater role in the education process.
