This year’s Guyana Cup horse race meet is saddling up to be the best one yet and SuperBet and Palm Court are among the latest entities that have partnered with the event.
Prize money for the 13th Guyana Cup horse race meet, scheduled for August 18th at the Rising Sun Turf Club, has been bumped up by $5 million and now stands at $20 million, up from $15 million.
With the increase in prize money this year, the event is sure to see an increase in participants. Chief organiser and Chairman of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr, noted that in addition to the feature C Class and lower race, which will see the winning stable owner pocketing $2 million, the three-year-old Guyana-bred race will see the winner running away with a $1 million bounty.
A total of eight races are on the cards and after the meet, fans will enjoy a concert that will feature six international artistes. Already confirmed for the concert are Gage, Munga Honorable, Kristo and K.I.
The prize money for the races are as follows:
C Class and lower feature race over a distance of one mile – $2 million
Three-year-old Guyana-bred – $1 million
G3 and lower – $400,000
L3 and lower (open to non-winners from Trinidad & Tobago) – $350,000
Two-year-old Guyana-bred – $300,000
J3 and lower over seven furlongs – $300,000
L Class for Colts – $250,000
L Class Filly and Mare – $250,000
Some of the top steeds expected to be on show on race day include Vera’s Finally (two-time winner), Don’t Overlook, Just Call Me Boss, Crown the King (Jamaica), Doublin Fashion (USA), Chameli (Jamaica), Safara (Jamaica), Southern Express (T&T), Silver & Things (T&T), Sitarr (T&T), Kentucky Woman (T&T), Super Easy (T&T) and Princess She’s Not.
Apart from the foreign contingent of thoroughbreds on show, several leading jockeys from overseas are also expected to compete and add a further international flavour to the day’s event.
Fans will be able to enjoy both the horse race meet and concert for the price of $2,000.
