City Council money-bag investigation still ongoing

Investigations are still ongoing into the matter in which a bag of money was found in the vehicle assigned to the city’s Chief Constable. Almost two weeks ago, the issue was brought to the attention of the City Council at a statutory meeting after the mayor asked that an investigation be conducted into the allegation which he stated he overheard.

The chief constable, Andrew Foo, had confirmed that the bag was found in the vehicle by his driver who then brought it to his attention. When contacted yesterday, Foo stated that verifications were done by the audit department of the council as it relates to the contents of the bag. He added that not much else could be revealed as the investigation into the matter is still ongoing. According to previous reports, Mayor Ubraj Narine had announced to the council’s statutory meeting that he was made aware of a bag of money being found in the chief constable’s vehicle. Foo was however not present at that meeting, but later clarified that the vehicle was not his personal vehicle but one assigned to him by the council.

It was later revealed that the vehicle was used for the daily escorting of the Treasurer and Clerk of Markets and the bag which was marked and numbered was identified as one belonging to the Clerk of Market’s department as it corresponded with the key which is used to open the bag.
