Dear Editor,
There is a man on the roadway who is impersonating the police. He would target those drivers who do not look to be aggressive, and tell them that they had committed a traffic offence and would need to go back to the station.
He drives a white not so old car. He has a tattered police badge, or what looks like one and pretends to be calling someone at a station. As per his modus operandi, he would drive up to you and say to you that he had been following you, trying to stop you for some time. That you had been driving in a reckless manner, pulling out dangerously in front of someone etc.. etc… to which the hapless driver like myself couldn’t recall and did not want to aggravate a ‘police’ in plain clothes.
He would then talk to ‘someone’ with whom he would negotiate to ‘give you a chance’ as you do not want to go to the station.
This happened to me at the Back Road by the traffic light. It cost me $5000 as it was all the money I had having just finished shopping.
A friend of mine had this experience by the cathedral where it cost him $10,000.
Our individual experiences were three weeks apart.
I wish to note that both my friend and I are senior citizens.
I wish to warn our senior drivers to be wary of this fraud. Please, if you are accosted, take the vehicle number and report or call the police.
You may wonder why I did not respond as I am advising others to do. When you are accosted in such a manner, the only thing on your mind is to get out of the police matter as stations can be depressing and time wasting. In other words you become confused and only start to think rationally after some time.
Yours faithfully,
