The 19th annual Jamzone “Summer Break” is expected to take place from August 16th to August 18th, with three major events set for the weekend.
At the official media and corporate launch on Friday, it was announced that the annual event will feature soca and dancehall nights along with the most popular event, the Jamzone Beach Jam. According to director of Hits & Jams Kerwin Bollers, Jamzone has been a part of the “GT Summer” for quite some time and they are working to make the events successful.
“This event has been on persons’ calendar of things to do during this period (August)…19 years is a great milestone and great achievement for us and we’re going to try to make this once again, the event for the summer period here in Guyana,” Bollers said.
On the night of August 16th, the soca event, branded as the ‘Soca Night Water Colors Beach J’ouvert,’ which is expected to be held at the Kitty seawall, will kick start the weekend. The soca night will feature artistes like Mandella Linkz, known for his song ‘Tombstone’, as well as Christo, whose song ‘Red Gyal’ has been taking over the airwaves. Local artistes Jumo and Brandon Harding will support.
Bollers said that though the names of the artistes may not be familiar to the general public, their songs have been trending for quite some time. More artistes are expected to be added to the line-up. “That event is going to start the weekend off like I said, paint, powder, water, lots of soca and we encourage persons to come out with their colors,” Bollers said.
International dancehall artiste, Popcaan, meanwhile, is the confirmed headliner for the Dancehall Night concert, slated for August 17th. Dancehall sensations Gage and Munga are expected to perform as well. Bollers said that the choice to have Popcaan headline the concert came very easily as the general public would have suggested the artiste in polls on social media. “We had put out a few surveys on our social media platforms and on the radio, asking persons to give us a list of artistes they would like to see to perform at Jamzone this year and Popcaan was one of the names that kept popping up,” Bollers related. He added that Popcaan has been taking over the dancehall scene and trending for quite some time.
The final event for the Jamzone weekend will be the Beach Jam, which will see the culmination of Hits & Jams’ “3 in 1 Summa” promotion. The Beach Jam will be hosted at the HJ Waterworld. The promotion allows patrons to purchase a Jamzone season pass, which can be used to access all three events over the weekend, and which comes with three entries for a promotion in which one person will be able to win a new car.
Bollers said that they are expecting a great turnout to the events.
