Buoyed by a large partisan crowd at the Mackenzie Sports Club [MSC] ground, Linden, tournament favourite Eagles FC defeated Botofago 3-1 to clinch the inaugural Divine Entertainment Summer Super Cup Football Championship on Saturday.
The contest was evenly fought, as both teams crafted several opportunities in their search of the title. Eagles secured the perfect start, as they got off the mark in the sixth minute compliments of an Omar Brewley conversion.
This lead would remain intact heading into the halftime interval. The resumption of play initially seemed to benefit Botofago, as they levelled proceedings in the 51st minute via a conversion from talisman Dequan Hercules.
However two goals in the space of nine minutes sealed the title for the Eagles outfit.
With the match seemingly destined for the extra time interval, Donovan Francis made his presence felt, recording a timely effort in the 79th minute to hand his side a 2-1 advantage. The aforesaid conversion sent the venue into a frenzy.
The contest was then sealed in the 88th minute, as Kellon Primo etched his name on the scorer’s sheet. With the win, Eagles FC pocketed $600,000 and the championship trophy.
On the other hand, the runner-up collected $400,000 and the respective accolade. In the third place playoff, Capital FC defeated Net-Rockers 3-1.
