The National U-15 footballers secured their quarterfinal berth in the CONCACAF Under-15 Championship, defeating Cayman Islands 2-0 yesterday at the IMG Academy, Florida, USA.
Requiring a victory to seal their place in the next round, Guyana secured the result via goals from Samuel Garnett and Rajan Ramdehol in the 41st and 62nd minute respectively.
The Guyanese will now face-off with French Guiana today at the same venue. Guyana’s starting XI consisted of Shavid Hernandez, Tyquan Brummel, Zakeel Flatts, Romel Medas, Brandon Solomon, Kevin Mullins, Rajan Ramdeholl, Joshua Kesney, Antwone Vasconcellos, Samuel Garnett and Shoran James.
On the management side, Bryan Joseph is the Head Coach, while Devnon Winter and Travis Bess are the Assistant and Goalkeeping coaches respectively.
The 42-team tournament, which features guest entrants Portugal, Slovenia and Israel, is divided into three divisions based on the confederation’s U-17 2019 ranking.
Portugal and Slovenia will feature in Division 1 alongside the best 14 teams in the event. They will be divided into four groups of four (Group A-D).
The top two from each group will progress to the quarterfinal round to contest for the overall title.
Guyana features in Division 2 (Group E-H) which comprises 16 teams inclusive of Israel. The top two from each pool advances to the quarterfinals to contest for the Divisional title.
Meanwhile, Division 3 contains the lowest ranked 10 teams (Group I-J). The winners of both group will contest the divisional championship match.
