Private sector says remains concerned President not complying with requirement for Cabinet to resign

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) says it continues to be concerned that in spite of the assurances offered by President David Granger of the government’s recognition of its “caretaker” status, the President has refused to accept the requirement of Article 106 (6) of the Constitution that “the Cabinet including the President shall resign if the government is defeated by the vote of the majority of all of the elected members of the National Assembly on a vote of no- confidence”.

All eyes now on court, GECOM

With neither the government nor opposition budging from their positions in relation to the holding of general elections, all eyes will now be on the High Court which will issue a ruling on house-to-house registration on Wednesday and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) which will meet on the day after.

Labelling among strategies in proposed alcohol control policy

Saying that proper labelling of alcoholic beverages is an effective strategy to encourage responsible drinking, Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) country representative Dr William Adu-Krow recently disclosed that this is among the recommendations listed in an alcohol control policy, which was handed over to the Public Health Ministry several months ago.
