The second West Indies Under-19 trial match ended with ‘Best One’ captained by Trinidadian Leonardo Julien, recording a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Kirk McKenzie’s men – ‘Best Two’ – in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sunday.
The matches are being used to select the Regional Under -19 side to contest the 2020 Under – 19 World Cup in South Africa.
‘Best Two’ batted first and were dismissed for 175 in 44.5 overs with Mbeki Joseph, who batted at number six, top-scoring with an innings of 36. Skipper McKenzie and all-rounder Nyeem Young chipped in with 25 apiece.
Guyanese Sachin Singh (6) and Kevlon Anderson (9) failed to get amongst the runs as Matthew Forde (2-30), Rivaldo Ramlogan (2-26) and Avinash Mahabirsingh (2-18) ended as the chief wicket-takers.
Kelvin Umroa backed up his three – for in the first match to end with 1-41 from nine overs.
Meanwhile, ‘Best One’, in response, coasted home to 177 for three in 35.3 over on the back of an unbeaten half-century from 17-year-old Barbadian Antonio Morris, who carved out five fours and three sixes during his 66 to guide his side over the line.
Morris shared in an unbroken 114-run stand with Jamaican Daniel Beckford (38) while opener Elroy Francis (36) gave the chase impetus at the top of the order.
Ashmead Nedd, though wicketless, was once again the pick of the bowlers, ending with 0-13 from six overs while Jayden Seales (1-22), Young (1-26) and Che Simmons (1-41) picked up the wickets to fall.
The final match will be tomorrow with Singh and Anderson searching for individual scores to impress the selectors.
