Hundreds of supporters from the opposition PPP yesterday returned to the streets calling for an end to House to House Registration and for President David Granger, to announce a date for elections.
The crowd congregated on Vlissengen Road between Regent Street and South Road in front of the Ministry of the Presidency.
Supporters travelled from across the country to lend to their party’s call for the president to announce an election date.
They also renewed their calls for the president to dissolve parliament and for his cabinet to resign.
The protest was led by Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and Presidential Candidate Irfaan Ali.
Chants of “Granger must go,” “set a date now,” “Who must go? Granger!” and “no house to house,” were heard from protestors as they marched between Regent Street and South Road.
Since the passage of the no confidence motion in December, the opposition has been calling for elections. They have argued that they allowed the courts to have their say in the matter and now that the courts have ruled, elections should be called.
Over three hundred persons turned out to support their party’s call for elections. This is the fifth such protest the PPP has organized in recent weeks.
