While the Ministry of Education prepares to release the results of the various Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations today, School of the Nations is proclaiming an 86% pass rate at the Cambridge-administered International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
According to a press statement from the school, Cambridge University yesterday released the results of IGCSE and Advanced Level Examinations for more than one million students from 136 countries worldwide.
At School of Nations where 58 students wrote the IGCSE exams, including seven Form 4 students who wrote Math, the overall pass rate was 86%.
Included in the outstanding performers are Jae-Anya Amsterdam who earned distinctions in English Literature and Physics, Grade A in Geography, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Management and a Grade B in Additional Mathematics.
Amsterdam credited her parents as well as the collective effort and dedication of the educators at School of the Nations for playing a significant part in her success. She also praised the foundation she received at Anais Private School noting that it helped to mould her into the hardworking student she is today.
Another top performer is Aliah Mohamed who described her experience at the school as fantastic. She earned an A Grade in Information Communication Technology, English and Environmental Management, B Grades in Economics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and a Grade C in Geography.
“I cherish the years I spent there and in the way the school prepares you for the future….rounded and not just an academic…The morals and values I garnered at Nations will be instilled in me forever and for that I am grateful,” Mohamed said.
Leianna Chung earned a distinction in English an A in Biology and B Grades in ICT, Geography, Maths, Chemistry and Physics while Nekeshia Clementson earned an A Grade in ICT, Environmental Management and B Grades in Economics, Geography, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Closing out the top 5 performers was Raven Dos Santos who earned a distinction in English – distinction, B Grades in Biology and English Literature and C Grades in Geography, Chemistry and Physics.
According to the statement the school has recorded a 100% pass in Additional Mathematics, Environmental Management, Spanish, and English Literature with the pass rates for Biology and English recorded at 96% and at 95%, for Chemistry 92%, for ICT 95% and at 90% for Mathematics.
Meanwhile, in the Sixth form where 13 subjects are offered over two years similar pass rates have been recorded. In the first year where students sit the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) examination a total of 265 exam entries were recorded. There was a 100% pass in Environmental Management, 93% pass in Sociology, 88% pass in Business, 78% pass in History and 75% pass in Psychology.
The top achievers included Sachin Ramroop with A in Accounting, A in Business, A in Economics and C in Mathematics, Eleesha Sanasie with an A in Business, A in Law and B in Psychology, Subramanie Puran who earned an A in Chemistry, A in Physics and B in Mathematics, Shania Smith with A in Mathematics, B in Biology, B in Chemistry and B in Physics, Annalisa Majid with an A in Business and B in Psychology
Second year or Advanced levels students sat a total of 165 exams for which there was a 93% pass in Sociology and in Mathematics, 88% pass in Psychology and 73% passes in Business.
The top achievers include Brian Jagmohan with an Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) Diploma with Distinction. Jagmohan also earned an A in Global Perspectives and Research and three Bs in English Language, Information Technology and Economics.
Other top performers are Keshini Digamber with As in Business Studies, Sociology and Economics, Ying Yang Zhong with Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Stephen Lewis with As in Economics, Sociology and Psychology, Shreveda Tewari with As in Sociology – A and Psychology and a B in Global Perspectives, Hemwanttie Jagasar with a B in Global Perspectives and Cs in Business, Economics and Mathematics and Aliyah Hassan with Bs in Business Studies, English and Psychology.
