An investigation has been launched into the assault of remanded prisoner Marlon Bradley, who was last Thursday beaten and had portions of his hair cut off by a group of inmates who launched an attack on him while in custody at the Lusignan Prison.
Director of Prisons (ag) Gladwin Samuels yesterday confirmed the incident.
He said that Bradley has since been extracted from the Holding Bay and was relocated within the Lusignan Prison.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear. However, it was captured on video which was recorded by one of the perpetrators.
In the more than one minute video seen by Stabroek News, an inmate was heard repeatedly ordering others to cut off Bradley’s hair as they stood over him.
As Bradley attempted to get up, the men pushed him back down and threatened to kill him.
“Aye don’t play no game before we kill yuh,” an inmate was heard saying.
Bradley begged his attacker, ““no buddy, no buddy”.
During the video, Bradley was beaten. He was slapped to his face and even had a foot pressed against his face.
An inmate was heard telling Bradley, “ayo is bad bai” while another slapped him and told him to “shut up”.
Before the conclusion of the video, someone could be heard ordering the others, “yall lef he”.
Samuels said that Bradley was unable to identity his attackers since their faces were concealed.
However, he noted that by voice recognition, prison officials identified one individual who has not been cooperative in providing an information.
Bradley, 34, a resident of East La Penitence, Georgetown and also of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara is said to be the main suspect in the murder of Guyhoc Park mechanic Reginald Atherly, who was shot and killed during a home invasion during late last month.
Bradley was shot by the police on the evening of August 4th after allegedly firing on ranks during their attempts to arrest him.
Last Friday, Bradley was remanded to prison after being charged with two offences; unlawful possession of a gun and ammunition.
Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned until September 6th.
