Two employees of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI), who allegedly broke and entered the home of a West Ruimveldt woman and stole almost $1 million in articles, were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged with the offence.
Dexter Ford, 25, and Alfred Singh, 28, both of West Ruimveldt, denied the charge which alleged that between the 10th and 11th of August at Lot 111 West Ruimveldt, they stole one television valued $269,000, a quantity of jewellery worth $516,000, three bottles of rum valued $50,000 and $25,000 in cash from Natasha David.
The charge was read by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Two.
The two men were represented by attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat who told the court that both defendants were employees of the MPI.
Police Prosecutor Traceyann Gittens objected to bail being granted to both defendants and told the court that on the day in question, at around 05:15 hours, David woke and discovered that her house had been ransacked. CCTV footage captured the two defendants allegedly committing the act. The prosecutor revealed that Ford was recently released on bail for an armed robbery offence.
Ford and Singh were subsequently remanded to prison. Their next court appearance regarding the matter will be on September 11th, 2019.
