A bus driver was yesterday sentenced to six weeks in jail after he admitted to assaulting a conductor.
Adrian Brandt, 40, also known as Sherwayne Brandt, pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on August 9th, at Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Eric Lang, causing him actual bodily harm.
The charge was ready by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According to Prosecutor Tracey Gittens, on the day in question, around 10.30 am, Brandt, who was armed with a metal object, confronted Lang after which he proceeded to grab him by his shirt and beat him. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Route 47 minibus park.
In addition, Gittens said Brandt has a history of aggressive behaviour and was known to the police.
After he was sentenced, Brandt began crying and shouted that others had attacked him first. “Six weeks away from my 19 children is too long,” the crying man added.
Earlier this year, Brandt was committed to stand trial at the High Court for the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
Meanwhile, another man, Patrick Dundas, was subsequently charged with using abusive and threatening language towards Brandt.
Dundas, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge that on July 29th, at High Street, he used abusive language on Brandt. In his explanation to Magistrate Daly, Dundas said Brandt was always beating up other people and had provoked him into committing the offence. He was fined $10,000 for the offence.
To the second charge, using threatening language, he pleaded not guilty. The charge states that on July 29th at High Street, he used threatening language towards Brandt. Dundas was granted his release on $10,000 bail and he was told to return to court on September 9th.
