National Para Table Tennis champion Gibran Sarfaraz along with coach Linden Johnson departed Guyana yesterday to participate in the 2019 Para Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Sarfaraz, who is a Level 10 Paralympic athlete, hails from the Rose Hall Corentyne, Berbice. He is a certified ITTF Level Two coach who has over the past year been honing his skill in the USA as he seeks to qualify for the Tokyo Games.
Meanwhile, Johnson in an invited comment prior to their departure, told Stabroek Sport that Sarfaraz has been pulling out all the stops to achieve his mark in Peru.
His Paralympic qualifying bid can be sealed if he reaches the semis in Peru.
Former National Table Tennis coach Denis LaRose, who now represents Trinidad and Tobago, is also set to contend for top honours in Peru and a place in Tokyo.
LaRose recently visited Guyana and used the opportunity to train at the Titans Table Tennis club to complete his final preparations.
