Guyana’s Tyrese Jeffrey and Priyanna ramdhani are through to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles and singles events at the Caribbean Regional Badminton (CAREBACO) junior championships in Barbados.
Playing at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in St Michael, Thursday, Jeffrey reached the last eight with a hard three-set win over Panama’s Pedro Gonzalez.
Jeffrey won 21-17,18-21, 21-15 and will battle Trinidad’s Leon Cassie for a spot in the last four.
Akili Haynes, the other Guyanese Under – 19 male player lost to Kennie King of Barbados 18-21, 12-21 which ended his campaign.
Jeffrey later returned to join forces with Ramdhani in the Under- 19 mixed doubles category. The duo tasted immediate success as they defeated Trinidadian duo Dejaun Williams and Zharia Hinds 21-10, 21-8 to cruise into the quarters.
The pair will face Suriname’s Jair Naipal and Chaista Soemodipoero.
Jeffrey will team up with Haynes to go up against Barbados’ Sean Butcher-Nurse and Alexander Price-Greaves in the men’s doubles.
Ramdhani will also face Barbados’ Robyn Sobers in the women’s singles before teaming up with Trinidad’s Chequeda De Boulet in the women’s doubles to face Kayleigh Moenne and Faith Sariman of Suriname.
