Due to the persistent rainfall in the mining town of Linden, the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) has cancelled the intended league format for the NAMILCO U17 championships and replaced it with a knockout tournament.
This was revealed by an official release from the UDFA, which stated that the decision was taken to ensure that event produces the representative for the National Playoffs.
The correspondence further revealed that the previous played matches will be declared null and void and that the event will now commence today (Saturday) with a doubleheader at the Wisburg Secondary School ground.
In the opening match of the new event, Botofago will oppose Coomacka Mines at 13:00hrs while Milerock will battle Hilltop United from 15:00hrs.
On Sunday at the same venue, Amelia’s Ward Panthers will engage Topp XX at 13:00hrs, with Eagles tackling Hi-Stars from 15:00hrs.
According to the UDFA, all matches once deadlocked at the end of regulation time, will immediately progress to penalty kicks. The semifinal round will occur on the following weekend.
