No bail for accused in four armed robberies

Carlton Bourne, the accused in a series of armed robberies, is now a remanded prisoner.

Bourne appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, when five charges were read against him.  It is alleged that on July 23rd, 2019, at Norton and Chapel streets, Lodge, while armed with a knife, he robbed Nicholas Jones of a gold ring, valued $60,000, a gold chain, valued $40,000, a cellphone valued $55,000, $28,000 in cash and a wallet, valued $3,000.

 It is also alleged that on July 26th, at Norton Street, Lodge, Bourne, while armed with a knife, robbed John Nedd of a black bag, valued $15,000, an iPhone 6 Plus, valued $195,000, a Samsung J7, valued $60,000, and a wallet, valued $7,000, along with $810,000 cash and US dollars equivalent to GY$29,000.

It is further alleged that on August 2nd at Princes Street, Georgetown, while armed with a gun, he robbed Jomo Paul of a gold chain, valued $252,000, and $220,000 cash.

Additionally, police charge that on the same date, at Middle Road, La Penitence, he discharged a loaded firearm to either disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to Sherry-Ann Persaud.

The final charge read to Bourne states that on August 13th, at Rasville, Georgetown, while armed with a gun, he robbed Persaud of a gold chain, valued $122,000, and an iPhone 7 Plus, valued $221,000.

Bourne, who pleaded not guilty to all the charges, was remanded to prison and the matters were adjourned until September 23rd, when a report is expected to be given to the court.
