The trial of Ganga Kishna and Avishkar Bissoon, who are accused of killing a man and his two young daughters after setting their Robb and King streets home on fire back in 2014, will officially commence this morning before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the Georgetown High Court.
Kishna and Bissoon are charged with three separate counts of murder in the deaths of Clarissa Rozario, Theresa Rozario, and the girls’ father, Hilrod Thomas. At the time, Clarissa was 14 years old, Theresa 12, and their father 63.
Particulars of the charges state that on November 17th, 2014, the two men murdered the Rozario sisters in the course or furtherance of arson in relation to a dwelling house. Their father, who was in the house at the time and sustained injuries, later succumbed on December 21st while receiving treatment in a hospital.
Kishna, called ‘Buddie’ and ‘Scientist,’ and Bissoon both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her address to the jury following the empanelment yesterday morning, Prosecutor Seeta Bishundial said that as the father and his two daughters slept in the wee hours of November 17th, they were incinerated.
She said that their Lot 65 King and Robb Streets home was deliberately set on fire as they peacefully slept.
The court heard that while Clarissa and Theresa died at the scene, their father was found in a corner of the house and later rushed to a hospital where he would die later.
The state’s case is that Kishna and Bissoon acted together in causing the fire to be set to the property which resulted in the three deaths.
The prosecution’s first witness is set to take the stand this morning.
Kishna is being represented by defence attorney Dexter Todd, while Bisssoon is being represented by attorney Mursaline Bacchus. The state’s case, meanwhile, is being led by Bishundial, in association with Lisa Cave.
