Fourth Annual Limacol Football Championship launched

The Petra Organization officially launched the 4th Annual Limacol Football Championship yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, thanked the New GPC for their continued support of the competition, adding that the event will give the sport a timely boost.

Meanwhile, Company Secretary Zulfikar Ali, in brief remarks, said that his company is proud to be associated with the tournament. He added that the entity places emphasis on the development of sport, which is highlighted by the fact that the company is a part owner of the Amazon Warriors.

He further urged the players to use the tournament as a platform to display their respective talents while wishing the Petra Organization a successful championship.

The event, which will feature 12 clubs from Georgetown, the East Coast of Demerara, the East Bank of Demerara and the West Demerara, commences on August 31st at the same venue. It is expected to conclude during the month of September.

The 12 teams will be divided into three groups of four, with the top two finishers from each pool alongside the best two third place finishers, progressing to the knockout round.

The winner of the event will pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
