Guyana is coasting along in the team’s category of the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships, which is ongoing at the Georgetown Club’s squash court.
The men’s team, comprising Richard Chin, Jason Ray-Khalil, Nyron Joseph, Shomari Wiltshire and Deje Dias, last evening booked their place in the semis after completing a 5-0 win over the Cayman Islands. Earlier in the day, the Guyanese accounted for Trinidad and Tobago by a similar scoreline.
Meanwhile, the female unit, led by the reigning singles champ Nicolette Fernandes, kept their perfect record intact by downing the Cayman Islands 5-0 in the round robin final.
That bout saw Nicolette Fernandes defeating Marlene West 11-3, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4 while Mary Fung-A- Fat took care of Jada Pitcairn 11-7, 11-6, 11-3.
Taylor Fernandes continued Guyana’s success by defeating Eilidh Bridgeman 11-2, 11-7, 12-10 as Larissa Wiltshire extended Guyana’s lead to 4-0 with a 7-11, 11-5, 11-3, 2-0 win over Lara Conolly.
Finally, Ashley De Groot sealed the win by taking down Emma Turnbull 11-7, 11-5, 11-6.
The Guyanese ladies will take on their Bermudian and Trinidadian counterparts today as they look to extend their unbeaten run.
Guyana also tasted success in the veteran’s category, defeating Jamaica 5-0.
