It was a day of contrasting results as Eagles, Hurry ATE and Uitvlugt secured wins in the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) leg of the NAMILCO U17 championship yesterday at the National Track and Field Center, Leonora.
Eagles bested fierce rival Pouderoyen 3-1. The Eagles outfit fell behind in the 12th minute after Reshawn Embrack uncorked a powerful shot which flew into the back of the net from outside the penalty box.
However, the lead would only last one minute compliments of a goalkeeping error, as Charles Benn pounced on a loose ball which was dropped by the goalkeeper and slotted it into the net.
With the score remaining unchanged heading into the second half, David Chisolm found the back of the net in the 52nd minute, skipping past several challenges before slotting his effort into the far corner.
The come-from-behind result was then sealed in the 63rd minute when Telbert Baptiste scored, placing his effort into left side from inside the penalty box, after dribbling his marker.
In another fixture, Uitvlugt overcame a dogged Den Amstel 4-3. Travis Fraser gave Uitvlugt the perfect start compliments of a second-minute effort.
Uitvlugt would be reduced to 10 players when Jonathan Dowler was shown a red card in the 29th minute for a reckless challenge.
The aforementioned conversion did not seem to hinder Uitvlugt as Fraser recorded his second in the 34th minute. Den Amstel then pulled one back in the 38th minute through Chris Smith.
It would be the first of an eventual hat-trick for Smith, as he scored his second goal in the 51st minute to level proceedings. Uitvlugt would respond in the form of Keshawn Andrews to retake the lead in the 55th minute.
The score would then balloon to 4-2 through a Mickhel McKend attempt in the 65th minute. However, Smith would send nerves rattling in the Uitvlugt camp as he bagged his third one minute later.
Nonetheless, Uitvlugt would survive the remaining minutes to capture the vital result. Meanwhile, Newcomer Hurry ATE dismantled Wales 7-0.
It was the Samuel Moonsammy show as the emerging star recorded a helmet trick. Moonsammy commenced the rout with two goals in the space of as many minutes.
His first came in the third minute, before he made his presence felt once more, converting in the fifth. Daniel Barker also got into the scoring act, tallying a quick-fire double.
The score ballooned to 3-0 as Barker netted in the 15th minute. He then returned to torment the Wales backline, scoring his second five minutes onward.
The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval. Identical to the first half, Moonsammy recorded two more goals to continue the trend of the clash.
His deserved hat-trick occurred in the 50th with a shot into the far corner, before recording his fourth and final conversion in the 66th minute. The eventual score was realised in the 70th minute as Izion Jah netted.
