Career banker, Imran Saccoor was last week elected to the post of President of the Cumberland, East-Canje-based, Young Warriors Cricket Club.
According to first-division captain, Suresh Dhani, the club is in the process of rebuilding after suffering an unwelcomed three-year haitus.
However, upon resuming competitive cricket after being re-admitted by the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), last year, the resurgence has seen the club competing in three finals and also winning the Ivan Madray 100-ball tournament.
Along with Saccoor, serving for the next two years will be Accountant, Aubrey David as vice-president, Satyanand Sripal as Treasurer, Dhanai as Secretary and Linden Austin as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer while former national youth pacer, Kwesi Maltay will be in charge of coaching.
President of the BCB Hilbert Foster congratulated the club for the move and wish them well. He said that it is time the club move further after producing their first Senior International player.
The BCB President further encouraged the new executives to get their house in order for the upcoming season while handing over a five gallon water pitcher and scorebook to the club.
The elected members in response congratulated the President and the BCB for their hard work and pledged their support.
The club, home of West Indies’ latest batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer, has an immediate plan to purchase covers for the pitch, buy a new tractor and build an all-weather practice facility.
Dhanai said that the club will welcome any assistance from former players, friends of the club, private individuals and corporate Guyana.
