A 23-year-old man was ordered to do two months of community service after he explained to a court that he would not act in a threatening manner toward his mother again.
Gregory Brown was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly yesterday and ordered to serve time doing community service.
The charge against him states that on August 24th at his home in Albouystown, he used threatening behaviour towards his mother. He was also charged for using threatening language toward his mother on the same day.
While the man pleaded guilty to both charges, probation officer Anand Sharma explained to the court that this is a recurring problem in the home. He informed the magistrate that Brown smokes marijuana and acts out constantly, leaving his mother afraid of him.
“On the day in question, she [his mother] start nagging at me and I got upset so I lash out on she, then I went to Mr. Sharma and tell he what happen,” Brown told Magistrate Daly. He also admitted that he smokes ‘weed’ and that he apologised to his mother after speaking to the probation officer. He added “I apologize to she and she know I am not going to do it again.”
The probation officer also explained that Brown has everything provided for him by his mother and suggested that if Brown was put to work for himself, maybe he would stop being so dependent and even stop smoking.
After listening to all the information, the magistrate granted Brown bail for both charges at $10,000 each and ordered him to perform two months of community service. She explained to him that he would have to report to the court every Monday and Friday or he would serve two weeks in prison as an alternative.
